Constant surveillance from CCTV cameras using AI software has become a common practice worldwide. While this poses privacy concerns, individuals can still evade their watchful eyes by avoiding fixed locations. However, a new frontier in privacy invasion has emerged with the widespread use of body-worn cameras, which are far more challenging to dodge.
Unfortunately, alleged privacy concerns have been exploited as a pretext for hindering the public disclosure of body camera recordings, even when individuals involved wish for them to be made public. This denial of the right to give up one’s privacy is problematic.
