Attack and Data Breach

Clay County, located in Minnesota, recently alerted individuals of a major cyber-attack that resulted in a potential theft of their personal and health information. The county discovered that its CaseWorks electronic document management system was targeted by a ransomware attack, compromising the data of individuals who receive or have received social services from Clay County or other Minnesota county social service agencies.

The stolen data varies for each individual, but may include personal information such as names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, and information related to services provided, such as where and when services were delivered. Additionally, insurance identification numbers and billing information may also have been compromised.
