The smart city concept has gained significant attention and importance in research and practice in the last decade. The term refers to ways of making cities more competitive, efficient, ecological, service-oriented, innovative, and inclusive. To date, numerous studies have offered definitions of the term and provided integrative smart city frameworks.
Despite extensive research, however, the term smart cityremains controversial and the subject of ongoing debate with regards to its definition and characteristics.
