The Chamber of Deputies approved a proposed amendment enabling individuals in Czechia to utilize digital ID cards stored on mobile devices for identity verification. The implementation of digital IDs is expected to commence in 2024. This amendment constitutes a component of the Digital Czech Republic project, which seeks to digitize public access to governmental services.
The proposed amendment to the law allows for the optional use of digital cards. Digital cards will not serve as a substitute for physical IDs and cannot be employed for remote identity verification. Furthermore, digital ID cards will not be applicable for international travel.
