Germany’s Digital Sector Growth

In 2024, Germany’s digital sector witnessed a notable 4.4 percent increase in turnover, reaching 224.3 billion euros (245.6 billion U.S. dollars), despite challenging economic circumstances, according to Bitkom. The digital economy showed resilience and growth, outpacing the overall economy by three to four times, with the information and communication technology (ICT) sector leading the charge. Most digital companies demonstrated crisis-proof characteristics, with sales and employment on the rise despite global uncertainties.

The digital landscape saw robust growth, with Germany, though ranking fifth with a 4 percent market share, striving to catch up in digitalization efforts, necessitating increased investments and accelerated digital policy initiatives. The German government recognized the criticality of the digital sector, emphasizing efforts to fortify the country’s position as a digital hub through initiatives aimed at fostering tech start-ups, advocating for AI standardization, and advancing future technologies.
