The European governments, including Estonia, Finland, and Iceland, have significantly advanced digital transformation through the X-Road platform. This secure data exchange system connects over 450 public and private organizations in Estonia and supports more than 3,000 digital services. By enabling seamless data sharing and reducing redundancy, X-Road enhances efficiency and service delivery.
Its open-source nature has led to adoption in over 20 countries, promoting international data interoperability. The platform’s future includes aligning with Europe’s Gaia-X data space initiative to support digital sovereignty and improve cross-border data exchange.
