The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reported that a faulty update from cybersecurity provider CrowdStrike led to a major global IT outage, affecting thousands of Windows machines and disrupting Microsoft services in Pakistan. The issue caused affected devices to enter a recovery boot loop, impacting internet services and various sectors, including banking, airlines, and digital payments.
The government and digital agencies should prioritize improving cybersecurity measures and response strategies to prevent such disruptions. CrowdStrike has since identified and fixed the fault, advising clients to update their software to restore services.
