Canada’s oil and gas sector, vital for the economy and national security, faces heightened cybersecurity risks due to the increased digitalization of Operational Technology (OT). The sector, contributing around 5% of the GDP, reported the highest rate of cyber incidents among critical infrastructure sectors.
Cyber threat actors are exploiting supply chain vulnerabilities to access IT and OT systems, with Business Email Compromise and ransomware being significant threats. The Canadian government is urged to enhance cybersecurity measures and foster public-private collaboration to mitigate risks and protect essential infrastructure from evolving cyber threats.
