U.S. Government Monitors Ransomware

The U.S. Government is monitoring the Play ransomware gang, which has claimed responsibility for the recent attack on American semiconductor manufacturer Microchip Technology. Known for double-extortion tactics, Play encrypts files and threatens to release stolen data. Microchip Technology faced disruptions to servers and business operations, prompting the company to isolate affected systems and launch an investigation.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has highlighted that Play ransomware, detected in 2022, has targeted various industries globally. This incident emphasizes the escalating threat of ransomware and the critical need for enhanced digital security measures.
