UK Government’s Online Safety Action

The UK Government, through its media regulator, will enforce new safety regulations on social media platforms starting in December. These guidelines, part of the Online Safety Bill, require tech companies to assess the risks of harmful content within three months or face severe penalties, such as fines or service blocks. The regulations aim to protect users, especially children, from illegal and harmful content online.

The role of digital platforms is central, with companies already making changes to limit risks. However, the government emphasizes that strict penalties await those failing to meet these standards, ensuring a safer digital space for all.
