Pakistan Government: Digital Currency Shift

The Pakistan government is advancing toward adopting Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) initiatives, with the State Bank proposing amendments to issue digital currency and regulate digital assets. These amendments aim to legalize cryptocurrencies as legal tender, while penalizing unauthorized issuers. The initiative could enhance financial inclusion, enable blockchain transactions, and boost the digital assets market.

CBDCs provide central banks greater control over monetary policy and secure, traceable transactions, reducing illicit activity. By embracing digital currency, Pakistan is aligning with global trends aimed at modernizing payments and extending financial services to underserved populations.
