Facebook  Australian Privacy Payout

Facebook users in Australia will receive a shared $50 million payment as part of a record settlement with the country’s information commissioner. The settlement ends years of legal proceedings related to the Cambridge Analytical privacy scandal. The scandal involved the unauthorized release of personal data from hundreds of millions of Facebook users. The data was used for political advertising purposes.

The settlement is the largest payment made by Meta outside of the US related to the scandal. The payment will be made available to potentially tens of thousands of Australian Facebook users who were affected by the scandal. Eligible users can apply for a base payment or an alternative amount if they can demonstrate specific loss or damage.
