Pakistan’s telecom regulator has proposed establishing a center of excellence at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to address cybersecurity challenges. The OIC is an intergovernmental organization comprising 57 Muslim countries, aiming to promote unity and cooperation among member states. The proposal emphasizes the need for international collaboration to ensure a secure digital future. This center will focus on research, training, and sharing frameworks to enhance cybersecurity.
The proposal was presented at a two-day international workshop, jointly organized by the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) and Huawei Technologies in Pakistan. Pakistan currently ranks among the top 40 countries in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2024 . The country has made significant progress in cybersecurity, advancing by nearly 30 positions globally. The proposed center of excellence will further strengthen cybersecurity efforts among OIC member countries.
