India is strengthening its intellectual property (IP) protections to navigate the complexities of a digital economy. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has launched initiatives to raise awareness and enforce IP rights, conducting over 1,300 programmes since 2017. These programmes engage stakeholders from academics to law enforcement to enhance understanding and reduce infringements. The goal is to prevent IP fraud and misuse.
To address IP challenges, DPIIT has implemented targeted programmes for law enforcement, academia, and industry. Over 130 IP enforcement programmes have been held across India, benefiting law enforcement agencies. DPIIT has also prioritized IP education in academic institutions and the industry, organizing over 400 programmes. Additionally, innovative campaigns like IPR Enforcement Guidelines and anti-piracy videos have been launched to reach broader audiences.
