Malaysia’s National Sustainable Development Goal Council has approved the National Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategic Plan, marking a significant step towards sustainable development. The plan aims to bring Malaysian businesses in line with ESG compliance and reporting standards. This move is expected to create a competitive advantage for the country and promote sustainable development. The government has made notable progress, projecting a 43% achievement of the SDG target by 2030.
The National ESG Strategic Plan prioritizes supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in complying with ESG guidelines without incurring excessive costs. A dry run for ESG implementation will be conducted by public-listed companies, multinationals, and government-linked companies. This initiative demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to sustainable development and ESG practices. By adopting ESG standards, Malaysian businesses can enhance their reputation and attract environmentally conscious investors.
