The Government of Sierra Leone has taken a significant step towards digital transformation by signing a $50 million agreement with China National Technical Import & Export Corporation for the SMART Sierra Leone Project. This project aims to expand internet connectivity to over 400,000 previously unconnected citizens. The initiative also includes establishing national data centers to manage and protect sovereign data.
The SMART Sierra Leone Project is part of the country’s Big Five Agenda, which prioritizes tech and infrastructure development. Additionally, the Minister of Communications, Technology and Innovation signed an agreement with Huawei Group for the Digital Village Project. This project will provide farmers and community members with access to vital online information to improve agricultural yields and expand market opportunities.
