The International Air Transport Association (IATA) unveiled digital data for February 2024’s global air cargo markets, highlighting sustained robust growth in demand. Total demand, quantified in cargo tonne-kilometers (CTKs*), surged by 11.9% compared to February 2023 figures (12.4% for international operations). This marks the third consecutive month of double-digit year-on-year demand escalation.
Capacity, gauged in available cargo tonne-kilometers (ACTKs), saw a notable uptick of 13.4% compared to February 2023 (16.0% for international operations). This increase was predominantly linked to the rise in international belly capacity, attributed to government-regulated growth in passenger markets (29.5% year-on-year increase), which significantly outpaced international capacity on freighters (3.2% year-on-year increase).
