The proposed changes include implementing passwordless logins, introducing passkeys with FIDO2 authentication standards for added security, and creating a decision-making framework to streamline digital services.
The Labor government plans to invest AU$10.8 million this year to implement these upgrades. Additionally, the digital ID app myGovID will undergo rebranding to address user confusion. Despite criticisms, a survey indicates that most users are satisfied with the MyGovID service.
