The Australian government has issued recommendations to enhance the MyGov digital identity system, responding to criticisms about its susceptibility to scams. The proposed changes include implementing passwordless logins, introducing passkeys with FIDO2 authentication standards for added security, and creating a decision-making framework to streamline digital services.
The Labor government plans to invest AU$10.8 million this year to implement these upgrades. Additionally, the digital ID app myGovID will undergo rebranding to address user confusion. Despite criticisms, a survey indicates that most users are satisfied with the MyGovID service.
