Canada’s Climate Disclosure Expansion

The Government of Canada is expanding mandatory climate-related financial disclosures to include large, federally incorporated private companies, enhancing transparency in sustainability reporting and aligning with the TCFD framework. Plans to amend the Canada Business Corporations Act and establish a regulatory process will define disclosure requirements, promoting accountability and sustainable investment.

Alongside these initiatives, the government is creating a sustainable investment taxonomy to classify green and transitional economic activities, which is expected to drive private capital flow, foster economic growth, and support the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 through the integration of digital reporting standards.
