Climate Data Challenges

Policymakers in Asia and the Pacific face significant hurdles in collecting and analyzing climate data, hampering efforts to address the region’s severe climate impacts. A recent survey highlights issues such as inadequate staffing, lack of dedicated units, and insufficient access to granular data on climate drivers and impacts. 

The region, which produces over 50% of global greenhouse gas emissions, urgently needs improved data systems and methodologies. Governments must prioritize investment in statistical capacities and digital tools to better inform climate policies and mitigate risks effectively.
