Governments are pivotal in addressing the persistent digital gender gap, crucial for advancing the goals of the Beijing Declaration and building inclusive smart cities. Despite a rise in global internet access, women, particularly in South Asia, remain significantly disadvantaged. This digital divide hampers their access to e-government, health services, and economic opportunities.
Bridging this gap requires gender-sensitive smart city initiatives and policies that enhance digital literacy and access for women. Effective strategies include promoting affordable internet infrastructure, supporting digital literacy programs, and implementing inclusive smart city solutions to ensure equitable benefits from technological advancements.
