The Digital Security Act 2018 (DSA), while a pioneering step towards establishing cybersecurity norms, faced criticism for its application in stifling dissent and limiting freedom of expression, without sufficiently addressing the core issues of online safety, digital system security, and personal data protection.
Recognising these limitations and the need for reform, the Cabinet of Bangladesh introduced the draft Cybersecurity Act 2023 (CSA) in August 2023 as a replacement for the DSA, aiming to refine the country’s cybersecurity framework.
