Nigeria’s Digital Transformation Bill

The Nigerian Government is pushing for the National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, which mandates public institutions to adopt electronic communication for official tasks, including document filings, information processing, and payment processing. If enacted, the bill, overseen by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), aims to revolutionize public administration by enforcing digital practices and imposing substantial fines for non-compliance.

The bill seeks to enhance digital literacy and streamline e-governance but may lead to jurisdictional conflicts with existing agencies. This initiative will align Nigeria with advanced e-government practices seen in other African nations and bolster its digital infrastructure.
