Pakistan Government’s Data Protection Challenge

The Pakistan Government must address the urgent need for robust data protection amidst rising identity theft and misuse of personal information. Current legislative frameworks are inadequate, leaving citizens vulnerable to scams. Despite various drafts of a data protection bill, none have effectively included government entities, which manage significant citizen data.

To enhance accountability, the government should prioritize a comprehensive data protection law that aligns with international standards, empowering individuals with rights over their data. Public awareness campaigns are essential to educate citizens about protecting their personal information and fostering trust in the government’s commitment to data security.
