The U.S. Government’s cybersecurity efforts are highlighted as Google reveals a nine-month cyberattack linked to Russian spies. The attack utilized commercial spyware from Intellexa, a Greek firm recently sanctioned by the U.S. for misuse of surveillance tools. Google urges users to update their software to address vulnerabilities exploited during the attack, which affected Apple iOS, Safari, and Google Chrome.
Google’s Threat Analysis Group identified the attacks as linked to Russia’s APT29, associated with the SVR. The exploits used were also found on Mongolian government websites, underscoring the risks of commercial spyware tools and emphasizing the need for robust data protection measures.
