Southeast Asia’s Digital Expansion

Southeast Asia’s digital economy continues to thrive, with online media, video streaming, and e-commerce sectors driving profitability, despite some ongoing losses in transport and food apps. The region’s digital landscape is bolstered by government support, including investments in AI infrastructure, and a growing shift towards digital finance and video commerce. While venture funding has slowed, strategic cost management and scaling efforts are leading to healthier bottom lines. The government plays a critical role in supporting this growth, contributing to digital infrastructure and regulatory frameworks that drive innovation and economic expansion.

Governments are also fostering a conducive environment for AI development, with over US$30 billion committed to AI infrastructure, including AI-ready data centers. This ongoing investment is expected to propel Southeast Asia’s digital economy, which is forecasted to reach US$1 trillion by 2030. Digital adoption in finance, e-commerce, and tech is laying the foundation for a dynamic, resilient economy across the region.
