The US Department of State has launched the Digital Agenda for Transformation in the Americas (DATA) for Cities Initiative, a $4.75 million program aimed at empowering municipal governments in Latin America and the Caribbean. The initiative will provide grants to develop and strengthen smart cities capabilities and enhance public service delivery.
The funding will be allocated across three key areas: $2.85 million for Smart City infrastructure projects, $1.25 million for a Smart City Innovation Accelerator, and $500,000 for regional technology capacity building. These investments will help create more connected, efficient, inclusive, and resilient urban environments.
