U.S. Government Challenges TikTok Over Children’s Privacy Violations

The U.S. Government has filed a lawsuit against TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, alleging violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The lawsuit accuses TikTok of unlawfully allowing children under 13 to create accounts, collecting personal data without parental consent, and failing to honor deletion requests.

This legal action follows a 2019 agreement with the Federal Trade Commission requiring TikTok to comply with COPPA. The government’s role highlights the need for stringent digital regulations to protect children’s online privacy and ensure compliance with privacy laws.
