US Court Strikes Down ESG Rule

A recent ruling by a U.S. District Judge has invalidated a Missouri state regulation restricting investment advisers from incorporating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria without investor consent. The Missouri government, led by a Republican majority, had mandated that advisers secure signatures before considering social or non-financial objectives in their recommendations. The judge deemed the rule unconstitutional, citing its vagueness and infringement on free-speech rights.

This decision reflects a broader national debate where various state governments are reconsidering limits on ESG investments, highlighting the ongoing conflict between state-level regulatory actions and federal standards in the digital finance sector.
