An eco-restoration project which was deployed in the city of Jinzhou in northeastern China’s Liaoning province has helped boost economic and social development. This is a city with 260 million residents who have witnessed an environmental facelift.
It stank along the Xiaoling river 20 to 30 years ago. Everybody knew that industrial sewage at the upper stream was discharged into the river without any treatment. No one dared to eat the fish caught there, and people would never go anywhere near the river.
