EU Tackles Space Debris

European governments are grappling with the escalating space debris crisis, as highlighted by the European Space Agency (ESA). Over 35,000 objects, including 26,000 larger pieces, are tracked in Earth’s orbit, creating an unsustainable environment for space operations. Despite mitigation efforts, debris accumulation persists.

Governments play a vital role in managing this issue through regulations and international agreements, such as the Zero Debris Charter. Digital technologies and data analytics are essential for tracking debris, safeguarding critical space infrastructure, and ensuring long-term space sustainability.
