SMEs Drive Digital Malaysia

Malaysia’s e-commerce sector has shown steady growth in 2024, with a 4% increase in income to RM918.2 billion in the first nine months. The growth was most pronounced in the second quarter, with e-commerce income reaching RM309.8 billion. Despite a slight decline in the third quarter, the sector remains pivotal to Malaysia’s economy. The government’s support through initiatives like the National eCommerce Strategic Roadmap has fostered growth.

The ICT and e-commerce industries contributed RM427.7 billion in value-added in 2023, reflecting a 3.9% increase from the previous year. Their collective share of the national economy rose to 23.5%. The Gross Value Added of the ICT Industry accounted for 13.8% of this contribution. The ICT sector’s composition highlights its economic importance, with ICT services accounting for the largest share.
