Vietnam: Hanoi’s Green Transport

Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city, envisions itself as a hub of fast, sustainable, creative, and inclusive development. The city’s general plan focuses on addressing environmental challenges, such as reviving polluted rivers and managing inundation. Green development and a circular economy are at the plan’s core, aligning with global efforts for a net-zero emissions future.

Hanoi’s development plan includes pillars such as culture and heritage, green transition, digital transformation, and science-technology and innovation. The city aims to make the digital economy contribute 40% to its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP). To achieve this, Hanoi is investing in underground transport and phasing out old vehicles and fossil fuels. The city’s comprehensive planning is poised to set a precedent for inclusive and future-ready urban development.
