Moldova: Ungheni Becomes a Safer City

Ungheni has taken a significant step towards enhancing public safety and modernizing municipal services with the development of an intelligent video monitoring system ¹. The system includes a video monitoring centre, a 19-kilometre fibre-optic network, and high-performance software to respond promptly to emergencies. This €103,815 project was supported by the “EU4Moldova: Focal Regions” programme, funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.

The intelligent video monitoring system boasts advanced analytical software capable of detecting vehicles, monitoring crowds, and analysing events and incidents. This software is compatible with the future Smart City platform, which will manage various aspects of city life, including street lighting and public transport. The system’s modular design allows for further development and expansion.
