Many humans may experience a phenomenon called “social loafing” when working with robots, where they do not fully engage mentally due to relying on the accuracy of the robot.
This can potentially compromise the quality of work, especially in safety-critical tasks. Researchers at the Technical University of Berlin conducted a study to investigate whether humans exhibit social loafing when working with robots. They used a simulated industrial defect-inspection task, where participants had to examine circuit boards for errors.
