Brazil Boosts Data Protection

In a bold move for digital privacy, Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority has directed Meta to stop using user data from Facebook and Instagram for training its generative AI models. This government-imposed ban, accompanied by a daily fine for non-compliance, underscores Brazil’s commitment to digital rights and ethical AI development.

The authority’s action, described as a “preventative measure,” seeks to safeguard users’ data from potential harms associated with generative AI technologies. Brazil’s leadership in digital policy demonstrates a proactive approach to balancing innovation with robust data protection standards in the evolving digital landscape.
