India Tightens Merger Rules

The Indian Government’s Competition Commission of India (CCI) has implemented new regulations for global mergers and acquisitions, focusing on companies with a significant presence in India. Transactions involving firms where over 10% of global customers are in India, or valued at ₹2,000 crore ($240 million) or more, now require CCI approval.

These regulations aim to enhance the scrutiny of digital economy deals, addressing substantial operations and potential market impact. The CCI will also consider various payments and valuations, including technology and intellectual property costs, to ensure compliance and fair competition in the Indian market.
