Indonesian E-Waste Management

Indonesia faces mounting challenges in managing electronic waste (e-waste) due to rapid technological advancements and increased electronic device consumption. The surge in e-waste production, exacerbated by short product life cycles and limited repair options, necessitates urgent action. The government plays a pivotal role, implementing regulations and initiatives like the National Action Plan for Electronic Waste Management. This plan aims to establish sustainable e-waste management systems, including recycling facilities and public awareness campaigns.

To address these challenges, integrating Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles with circular economy strategies offers a sustainable solution. By extending the lifespan of electronic products, facilitating repairs, and promoting recycling, Indonesia can reduce e-waste’s environmental impact and enhance resource efficiency. Collaboration between the government, private sector, and society is essential, along with education and regulatory enforcement, to ensure responsible e-waste management in the digital age.
