An iPhone belonging to a staff member of a Washington-based civil society organization was remotely hacked using spyware developed by Israel’s NSO Group, according to research group Citizen Lab.
The hack, which was discovered previous month, prompted Citizen Lab to report the incident to Apple Inc. The company swiftly investigated and patched the breach. The severity of the attack, combined with the fact that it was actively used against civil society, highlights the importance of addressing this issue seriously.
