Pakistan’s Net Metering Policies

The government of Pakistan, in a bid to enhance digital energy solutions, plans to revise the net metering buyback rate to average energy cost, extending the payback period to five years. During a seminar, key power sector stakeholders discussed the challenges and proposed solutions for net metering.

Recommendations included limiting excess unit carry forward to one month, reducing sanctioned load limits, and implementing smart meters for better network monitoring. These measures aim to stabilize the grid, encourage self-consumption, and ensure a fair tariff regime for all consumers.
