UK’s Data Protection Plan

The British government has introduced the Data Use and Access Bill, aiming to reform the country’s privacy regime and potentially boost the economy by £10 billion over the next decade. This new bill shares similarities with the previous government’s Data Protection and Digital Information Bill. The main concern driving this legislation is the upcoming decision in Brussels regarding the UK’s data protection regime compatibility with the EU’s.

The proposed reforms aim to strike a balance between maintaining high data protection standards and driving essential reform. Peter Kyle, secretary of state for science, innovation, and technology, emphasized the value of collaborating with the EU.
