Cambodia’s Protest Crackdown

The Cambodian government faced criticism from international rights groups following the arrest of nearly 100 people protesting a regional development agreement with neighboring countries. The government defended the arrests, citing the need to maintain social order and security, and accused the protesters of seeking to destabilize the nation.

Digital platforms played a role as opposition groups used social media to organize protests, leading to increased government surveillance and restrictions on movement. The government emphasized that these actions were necessary to uphold the law and national security.
