Ethiopia: Addis Ababa Smart City

Addis Ababa city is accelerating its smart city efforts, focusing on expanding technology and infrastructure. The city administration is collaborating with Ethio Telecom to deliver high-speed network services. This initiative is part of a national push for ‘smart cities’ to incorporate into the country’s urbanization strategies. The goal is for Addis Ababa to become a smart city hub in Africa.

The “City Net” technology aims to modernize systems for tax collection, vital event registration, and complaint submission. This will significantly improve the city’s service delivery capabilities. The initiative will be implemented across 58 institutions and 120 districts within the city’s 11 sub-cities. A total investment exceeding 280 million Birr will support this transformation.
