Nepal Boosts Disaster Preparedness

Nepal’s government is enhancing disaster preparedness with digital advancements, including an AI landslide forecasting system, a toll-free disaster emergency number, and a comprehensive Monsoon Preparedness and Response Plan. In collaboration with international scientists, the AI system SAFE-RISCCS will predict landslides using satellite and ground motion data. The government also launched a 24/7 toll-free number for emergencies and mobilized emergency personnel with helicopters on standby.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority’s plan aims to protect communities from monsoon hazards, emphasizing digital early warning systems, meteorological forecasts, and inter-ministerial cooperation.
